Life has been rather busy of late. In fact, at the end of last week, I could feel mental exhaustion waiting like a wild dog at the edge of my mind. I knew I needed a break. I couldn’t take a break from work this week, but I knew I could take a mental break after work hours. So, every day this week, I set the following challenges for myself after I “clocked out”:
Do not watch TV or movies while alone. (If my hubby wanted us to watch a show together, that was acceptable).
During free-time, sit quietly and read, knit, or do another restful activity.
Read through some of Brother Lawrence’s Practicing the Presence of God.
There were several other tasks I set for myself (since it was Holy Week), but I won’t necessarily delve into those here. Suffice it to say, it has been a wonderful week of quiet repose around my house. I knew that I really needed to take some time to “chill”. I published my third book last week and much of this week has been spent in marketing during work hours. I’ve also been transitioning back into my full-time writing schedule after coming off a very nice publishing week. All in all, I’d say that I’ve come to the end of the week with a clearer mind, a quieter spirit, and a more relaxed bearing. Today, my husband and I have the day off. I have big plans to spend it reading and maybe putting a few more rows on a crocheted blanket I’ve been working on.
How are you spending your Friday?
Happy writing and reading. 🙂
