That’s what I’d ultimately like to be.

In our busy, busy Western world, it is easy to feel overwhelmed, stressed, and out of sorts. Now that I’m getting to do the things I love full-time, I am becoming more aware of my need for simplicity, spiritual connection, and peace. Rather than feeling stressed by work, I am feeling happy, fulfilled, and challenged. Now the things that stress me out are busyness, normal household tasks, and everyday living. As a writer, I think I tend to be more eccentric and extremist than my many non-writing friends and family members. I think it just comes with the territory. We writers are creators and imaginative folk! We like to explore, delve, drink deeply, and live intentionally.

I’ve been thinking a lot about simplifying my life and home. Because I am working full-time from my house, I am paying more attention to domestic things–laundry, dishes, cleaning, dusting, decorating, etc. I am also feeling like I’m not doing a hugely good job of keeping up with everything. My writing is my absolute passion and when I’m not writing, I feel lost in the house sometimes. However, I also have a passion for keeping my home. I want my house to feel like a sanctuary– a place of rest, love, and Sabbath peace. I want my home to be warm, glowing, and creatively inspiring.

In order to learn how to live more simply, I am trying to gather a wealth of resources on the subject. We writers know how to research, eh? I want to be a writer who is living intentionally and passionately in the other areas of my life. I want my need to create and tell a story to bleed into the other categories of living. I want my home, my life, my love, my work to tell the story of my life in a beautiful manner.

As I embark on this endeavor, I’m paying special attention to the following resources:

>>Simple Bites

>>Zen Habits

>>Becoming Minimalist

>>Simple Homemade

>>Simple Organized Living

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not getting rid of my cars or throwing my TV to the curb. That’s not the kind of simplicity I’m talking about. I’m talking about organizing my life so that my home stays clean, neat, and happy. I’m talking about creating an environment that is conducive to my creativity and passion for writing and family. I want a home that holistically brings in my husband’s and my talents and giftings.

Atmosphere is hugely important to me– and to most writers, I’d imagine. We love to generate setting. I want to create an interesting, wonderful setting in my life.

Any simple living posts will fall under the “Balance” category on the sidebar. I feel like life is a delicate balance of relationships, impulses, talents, passions, and decisions. This definitely falls into that category.

For now, I’m off to do some editing! I hope you have a delightful Tuesday!

P.S.–I took that gorgeous picture in fall of 2011. Aren’t those trees AMAZING? I adore the world we live in.
