One of the ways in which I center myself during stressful seasons and also find peace during the everyday busyness of life is to write haiku poems. I was first introduced to haiku poetry during my elementary school years and the practice of writing 5, 7, 5 has always stuck with me. My journals are littered with haiku poetry from my childhood on up into adulthood. Even though haiku poetry isn’t directly connected to my fantasy novels, it is an important piece of my writer-history and one that I would be honored and privileged to share with you. Below, you can see the cover for my current collection of haiku poetry and its availability.
Haiku is more than mere poetry. It is a form of meditation by which poets and readers may engage in meaningful introspection. In a mere seventeen syllables, a writer or reader may find intense stillness of mind and peace of spirit. It is my hope that my collection of haiku from all four seasons might bring you joy, comfort, and a sense of tranquility. This is a collection of my haiku from the past years and those written in 2013. I intend to publish this volume at some point near the end of this year or early 2014. The chapters will simply be referred to as: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. I will update each chapter with new haiku as the year passes.
You can find this ongoing haiku project on my Wattpad profile. If you’re feeling stressed or you simply desire a few quiet moments of calm, consider reading these. Even better, try writing your own haiku!
