I’m pleased to say that NaNoWriMo is going really well! I’m on track to finish my 50,000 word manuscript two whole days early! I’m not a super fast writer, but I’m pleased with my avg. word count of about 1800 words right now. The story I’m writing is extremely different than what I usually write. It’s turning out to be a first-person, present tense religious historical fiction piece. (O_O) I told you it was different than what I normally write. 😉
I am having great fun with this little exercise. I’m not confident enough to say that my writer’s block is over, but this is the most I’ve written consistently in so long, that I am greatly encouraged by this practice. One thing I did differently this time was to completely go back to my pantser roots. I love sitting in front of a blank page with NO IDEA where my story will take me and just diving in. That’s how Night Bells came to be and how many of my favorite stories took form. I also turned this NaNoWriMo project completely over to God. I believe that God led me to write stories in the first place and with my writer’s block struggle over the last ten months, I new that my own determination and hard work simply wasn’t enough to break through. Thus, I asked Him to lead me in this project. I truly feel that He is.
I have no idea where this story is going. I don’t know if I’ll have something publishable at the end, or if this will just be a sweet story seen only by God and myself. I’ll just have to see where it goes. 🙂
How is your NaNoWriMo experience going? I hope you’re having fun and enjoying your project!
