My Review of Elise Kova’s EARTH’S END

Happy Wednesday, all! Unfortunately, no #WIPWednesday post today. I DO, however, have another book review for you! I just finished up Elise Kova’s Earth’s End and…you guys…it will DESTROY you. No joke. Hands down, the Air Awakens series is one of my favorites EVER.
Earth's End (Air Awakens, #3)Earth’s End by Elise Kova
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’m having trouble even functioning as a normal human being today. I finished this book last night and I am still reeling. It was so. so. good. At the same time, the end shattered my soul. I am DYING for the next book.

Without spoiling things, I will say that I found Vhalla’s character in this book to be her best incarnation yet. She was strong, hardened, and steeled for the terrible fate ahead. I also found the conflicts and flaws in other characters to make them even more endearing rather than less. We got to find out more about the North and the terrible conflict in Vhalla’s soul about going to war with them. The relationship between Vhalla and Aldrik progresses, ebbs, and flows. Man. Seriously. My heart. We get to meet several new characters, including Jax (who is my precious son).

All of that being said…that ending…you will cry your eyeballs out. Have the tissue ready.

WIP Wednesday: Injuries and Updates and Air Awakens, Oh My!

WIP Wednesday Graphic banner

Happy Wednesday, you guys!! So sorry we didn’t have one of these last week, but I was absorbed completely in Elise Kova’s Air Awakens series. I am SOOOOOOOOOO excited because Earth’s End (book 3 in that series) comes out tomorrow! If you missed my leg of the blog tour from yesterday, check out my leg of the Earth’s End book blitz.

So, for those of you that follow me on Instagram, you no doubt saw all of my pitiful little pics of my left wrist all braced up. 🙁 It’s very sad. My lovely beta-reader / nurse-practitioner extraordinaire helped me out with a treatment plan, but I had some sort of icky flare up of tendinitis or some sort of wrist strain thing (very medical and scientific right there). Basically, from Wednesday last week through today I’ve had some nasty wrist pain that has been keeping me from typing normally. Today is the first day that I’ve even been able to come close to typing normally and I’m really trying hard not to over do it. So, because of that, I’ve been getting creative with my drafting process. I’m talking going old school writing in a notebook all the way to Google Docs drafting one-handed on my phone.

Tales from Niflheim are all still with my editor currently. Book 1 from Ancestors & Immortals is with my beta readers. Book 2 drafting is…going. I’m only on chapter three at the moment, but I am getting there. Obviously the wrist business threw me off, but I’m getting back up on the horse today and am going to try my absolute best to meet my rough draft deadline. *Fingers Crossed*

As far as reading goes, I read both Air Awakens and Fire Falling last week (click the titles to see my reviews) and seriously. I am STILL not over it. I am basically going to be useless tomorrow devouring Earth’s End. I’m also still reading Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke and The Blade’s Memory by Lindsay Buroker.

What are you guys working on / reading right now? I’d love to hear!

Also, don’t forget to come hang out with me on social media! 😀

Elise Kova’s EARTH’S END Comes Out THIS Thursday!

I am SOOOOO pleased and thrilled beyond belief to participate in the Earth’s End Book Blitz! You guys…this book comes out on THURSDAY! AHHHHHH! I am so, so excited to see what happens to Vhalla and her buddies! If you aren’t familiar with the Air Awakens series, you can see my reviews of Air Awakens and Fire Falling before you read the teaser here. BEWARE! If you haven’t read the first two books, there may be some spoiler-ish things below, so go forward with that caution. HERE WE GO!

My Review of Elise Kova’s FIRE FALLING

Hi there, kiddos! SO, I honestly could not put the first two books in the Air Awakens series down so… I’ve kind of already finished book 2, Fire Falling!!! Here is my review. Seriously, you guys, put everything down and go read these immediately. GO!

Fire Falling (Air Awakens, #2)Fire Falling by Elise Kova
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I almost feel speechless and unable to articulate just how much I loved this book and how hard it is going to be to wait until Earth’s End comes out!! I was just as obsessed with this book as I was Air Awakens and feel JUST as excited to start book 3 when it’s out. (I’ve pre-ordered it and the fourth book…)

In this book, unlike the first, Vhalla goes through a grieving and hardening process to prepare herself for her journey into soldier-hood and war. It is painful at times to watch her struggle, but at no point do you feel her suffering is pointless. Her friendships deepen and feel real. Her relationship with Aldrik progresses and yet holds tension spectacularly. I honestly don’t want to say too much and give anything away.

I hope you’ll give this entire series a shot. It has been years since I’ve stumbled across a series with characters I’ve grown so attached to and love to pieces. Elise Kova’s single character point of view builds our intimate connection with Vhalla as she goes through the hardest days of her life and I know I’ll be there cheering her on in Book 3 and all the rest!

My Review of Elise Kova’s AIR AWAKENS

No WIP Wednesday for you guys this week, but I’ll be sure to do one next week. Instead, I’ve GOT to share my thoughts with you guys about Elise Kova‘s Air Awakens. I could. not. put. this. down. Seriously. If you love YA Fantasy novels, get thee to your favorite bookseller and GET IT. You won’t be sorry.

Air Awakens (Air Awakens, #1)Air Awakens by Elise Kova
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A dazzling trip with Vhalla on her journey toward courageous womanhood!

It has been AGES since I’ve read a full-length book in less than 48 hours. I’m a busy, busy gal with a full-time job, doing my author stuff at night, and just general obligations that demand my daily time. So I want you to understand the full weight of it when I say that I COULD NOT PUT THIS DOWN. I was literally sneak-reading it during my work breaks and bathroom trips (TMI possibly, but my obsession with this was legit). I usually work a lot during my lunch break each day, but not yesterday and the day before. It ALL went to Air Awakens.

I thoroughly enjoyed Vhalla as a heroine. She was flawed. Conflicted. Insecure. So often, I think many of us are JUST LIKE THIS and somehow, Kova manages to balance her flawed character with an underlying strength, intelligence, and curiosity that keeps her from coming off as annoying or whiny. I truly felt her struggle and it was relieving to connect so well with a character.

Aldrik was just as flawed and fascinating, but in a completely different way from Vhalla and the two of them contrasted well with each other. For a relatively fast-paced story, I found myself highly impressed with the character development. I felt their strong attachment was more complex than mere attraction or friendship and thoroughly look forward to seeing the progression of their relationship and to learning more about their “Bond”.

I find myself utterly fascinated with the world she has created, the conflict between nations, the Mother and Father, and all the other aspects of Vhalla and Aldrik’s existence and cannot WAIT to begin Fire Falling on my first work break today.

Job well done, Elise Kova. You are an inspiration to me as a writer and I can only dream that one day my books experience the same realm of success and love that your series has gleaned from your fans.
