So, I read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings when I was in high school and ever since, I’ve been obsessed with Tolkien and his magnificent world! I read the books. I watch the movie. I’m one of those nerds who tries to learn Elvish (both Quenya and Sindarin varieties). I also play LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online). My race of choice in that game? Hobbit. No question. However, as I’m growing older, I’m finding myself more drawn to Hobbit-y life.

Things that make me convinced I’m a hobbit at heart:

1. I adore food–especially meat and veggies. I’d be happy eating the customary 6-7 hobbit meals daily.

2. I love leisure. I really love kicking back, enjoying nature, and relaxing. It is terrific.

3. I’m super short (for an adult female). We’re not talking under 5′ or anything, but I’m 5′ 3″, which is below average.

4. I have a distinct appreciation for tea.

5. Though I don’t smoke, myself, I love the smell of pipe smoke.

6. I’m enchanted with faraway places, even though I love being home the best.

What about you!? If you could be one of the races in Tolkien’s Middle Earth, which would you choose and why?

Happy Thursday!

Reasons I’m Convinced I’m a Hobbit

  • Hehe, this is adorable. Also…I never thought about it, but I love ALL OF THOSE THINGS. Accept for the height. I’m very problematically tall. Still, I’m totally in on the rest of Hobbitdom.

    • Haahaa. It feels kind of nice to think you’d fit into the Shire, does it not? Thanks for stopping by, Heidi!

  • BUT — do you have hairy feet?

    Didn’t think so.

    • Do hairy toes count? The Philosopher TOTALLY has hobbit feet…we’re talking SPITTING image.

Baha! Love this! You make an adorable hobbit, my friend.
Personally, I would have to go with Elf…

    1) I love wine. Particularly fruity, deeply flavored wines that come from barrels.

    2) Unlike hobbits, I do not care too much for celebrating my own birthday. I prefer to enjoy an age-less mystique. Thus, I rarely specify my exact age in conversation or reference my birthdate.

    3) Like the tree-dwelling elves, I prefer my dwelling to be high up in the air. If given the choice between a low-to-the-ground dwelling or a house in the trees, I will pick trees. Any time we’re apartment shopping, I want the very top story of the building.

    4) I crave being near the ocean to hear the sound of seagulls calling. Just like Legolas craved the ocean, I want to find my healing by the shore.

    5) Like the elvish heroines, my forever Love is a brown-haired man with a beard on his face.

That said, I DO love the smell of pipe smoke. And I love food! And tea. So perhaps, there is a smidgen of hobbit in us all. 🙂

    • AHHH! Such a fun response, Kelli! Yes, I think you’d make a far superior elf than hobbit. For one, you’re so tall and graceful and GORGEOUS! LOL. I do agree, though, that we all must have some smidgen of hobbit in us since most of us love food and drink…Glad you commented! I was wondering if you’d remember our fun night dressed up for the movies! You were a gorgeous elf maiden, my dear!

Will never forget! Haha, a wonderful memory of our adolescent geekery. 🙂
        Makes me smile!
