I’ve got like forty billion of them now. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, go check out this Amazon page. Check it every hour. It will C.O.N.S.U.M.E. your life. Seriously. Sometimes, there are insanely great books in those lists that will only be available for free for a few minutes. I’ve made some great scores! In the past two days alone…I’ve been able to nab 13…THIRTEEN free books from this list! Again, they aren’t always free forever, so you do have to check it often. Moral of this story? If you’re on a budget, but you’re looking for some great reads, it is totally possible to grab free eBooks that are actually widely reviewed and liked. You just have to know where to look. 🙂
Books I’m most excited about from that list of thirteen (so far) that I’ve grabbed?
>> Daughter of Joy (Brides of Culdee Creek Book 1) by Kathleen Morgan — I like a good romance every now and again and this book was given very high ratings. As well, I’m in a bit of a “west” phase, so I’m seeking out stories that take place on the great frontier.
>> Homespun Bride by Jillian Hart — This romance takes place in Montana–a state I am MAJORLY obsessed with. I’ve always wanted to go there and bask in its mountainous glory. Hopefully this book will showcase the geography.
>> From a Distance by Tamara Alexander — This one sounded interesting because it pursues a female photographer and that sounded very “unique” to me–especially given the historical period in which it was written.
>> Twin Passions by Miriam Minger — I LOVE Miriam Minger’s writing style. It has that flourishing prose that makes my heart go pitter patter. Now, I’ll warn you, all of her books have a bit of um…well…heat…to them. If that seriously bothers you, you could easily skip over those short bits and STILL enjoy the amazing stories she weaves. Minger tends to focus on historical periods and this one takes place when Viking raiders are still roaming the European isles and the Anglo-Saxons are heavily entrenched in England. I’m currently reading this one. I thoroughly enjoyed her O’Byrne family series, so when I saw this book was up for free (for a limited time), I nabbed it immediately. Again, don’t let the heat keep you from reading this one. Just flip through them if they’re not your cup of tea to enjoy a thoroughly interesting story.
Noticing a theme here? Most of the free eBooks up for grabs are going to be romances. Now, if you’re like me, you don’t want to pick up just any romance book. I don’t mind a bit of heat if the story is AMAZING, but otherwise, I’m not just gonna go grab random romance novels off the shelf. I tend to do my homework first or I become loyal to a talented author and read through their back list. Romance novels are great for a chill weekend read or just to warm your heart on a cold day. As well, I don’t feel hugely great at writing romantic plot lines, so it helps me, as an author, to get a handle on how other writers depict romantic tension and resolution (and no, I’m not talking about sex; I’m talking about relationships.)
Go check out that list for reals! You can often grab some REALLY cool novels! On the left side of that page, you can filter out the genres you would like to look through or you can just look through the most popular books out of all categories (again…LOTS of romance).
Romance not your thing? What’s that? You’re a FANTASY and SCIENCE-FICTION reader? It’s not free, but my book Night Bells is only $2.99 for Kindle and Nook. If you like stories of mystery, other worlds, and family, you’ll enjoy this book. Consider giving it a shot if you’re looking for a new read. 🙂 (*End Shameless Promotion* ;-))
